I recently read an article by Jason Santa Maria on his blog titled "Under The Loupe #3: Critiquing". It is from a series on the design business and working in the design field. While there are many good points in the article, the following quite stood out in my mind as something I'm almost ready to frame:
"[D]esign is not about innovation. Design is about communication."
He goes on to say the following: Innovation in design is usually a wonderful byproduct or direct result of a particular need. Design that seeks to foremost be innovative will commonly fall apart under its own stylistic girth.
I'm currently in the middle of a redesign for my employer. It is for the primary website of the ministry and as another designer and I have been wireframing and discussing and designing, we keep thinking how nice it would be to innovate. Have something different, when in reality we just need to solve problems. If we do it well, we will end up innovating, but we will have an effective, well thought through design as a result.
Jason goes on to talk about tips for giving critques and for recieving critques. Some helpful tips from those who have gone before.
With Regards to linking to ousite SWF files. Maybe.. today??
Great Thanks.
