Command of Pictures, Words, and Next
Steven Heller's interview with Nichelle Narcisi started me on quite an adventure reading about the recent AIGA Next Conference. Sounds like those of us that missed it, really did miss out.
Narcisi won a reality style design competition at the conference called Command X where young designers were given a day to prepare designs to be judged by the seasoned pros.
Recently I heard the Triesta Hall from Full Sail speak at the Orlando InDesign User Group. She showed a quote similar to:
If a picture is worth a thousand words, it is good to remember that designers have command of both.
Our design education is often weak in the word area. There is so much focus on learning the aesthetic skills that writing skills are ignored.
Narcisi became a star with her final get-out-the-vote piece "except you". It shows that at least this designer has real command of words. (Her pictures aren't bad either) Congratulations Narcisi. I can't wait to see what you have for us next.
PS: Does anyone know who to attribute the picture quote to?
