New York Times to AdCritic.com "Run for [y]our money"

Remember AdCritic.com? Yes, the great Web archive of commercials and print advertising. It was/is a wonderful site for taking a creative break and staying current with advertising trends. Unfortunately, to gain access to AdCritic.com one must subscribe to their oversized, very expensive, sub-par magazine Creativity.

I've let my AdCritic.com account lapse. Thanks to Flash Video everyone knows we now have most every short piece of video accessible on demand via youtube.com or its sibling. I wonder how long AdCritic.com's business model will survive with many advertisers skipping the Super Bowl and going straight to YouTube with their ads.

One of the last advantages AdCritic.com might claim is the fact they are a serious venue for advertising research. Thanks to the New York Times we have an alternative in their developing and free video section. (Drill down in Channels to Business and then In Advertising.)

To get started watch the new and old MayTag campaigns and notice the difference in length between the 1967 ad compared with the 2007 ad. Most ads posted are supporting articles in the New York Times. You can't get much more serious than that in advertising!
